Popular Yarm venue The Keys is hoping to extend opening times by one hour 12 times a year.

The late-night venue has lodged an application with Stockton Council to alter its premises licence. Bosses want to extend finishing times by one hour for 12 times every year, on a Friday or Saturday, as well as change the current door staff conditions.

The venue also hopes to extend its operational time by one hour when British Summertime begins, so that it doesn't lose an hour on the night when the clocks go forward.

The licensing bid details how the door staff condition is hoping to be altered for different capacities inside the venue.

The proposed changes would apply on Fridays, Saturdays, and on Sundays before Bank Holidays. It would also include Good Friday, Boxing Day, and New Years’ Eve.

For up to 200 punters, from 9am until close, The Keys wants a minimum of three door staff when the downstairs and cocktail lounge is open, and a minimum of four if any other upstairs rooms are open.

It also wishes to add one door staff for every additional 100 customers if the capacity exceeds 200.

Fourteen days notice would be given when the venue wanted to extend the opening times by one hour for the planned 12 occasions per year.

The Keys - which boasts a popular restaurant, nightclub, and beer garden - continues to be a staple on the Yarm nightlife circuit, recently drawing crowds for club DJ sets with JLS star Marvin Humes and Take That member Howard Donald.

The application comes just months after the venue launched the new Cabana Cocktail Lounge and Hideout bar, located in an upstairs section of the venue. The tropical-inspired lounge is described as a “unique escape” with a range of quirky cocktails on offer.

The consultation for the application closes on June 27.
