The Northern Echo staff have recommended some of the best walks you can try around Darlington this summer.
County Durham is home to some beautiful vistas and if you try these walks you might be surprised at some of the sights not far from Darlington.
You'll be able to enjoy rivers, woods, and rolling hills within just a few minutes drive from your house.
Here are the Northern Echo picks for walks around Darlington:
1. Coatham Woods
A vibrant woodland habitat that is absolutely bursting with wildlife to see in summer.
Coatham Wood, a community area, can be found near Stockton and it is a relatively new forest with trees dating back to 1999.
You will find a mixture of broadleaved and conifer trees, as well as ponds and meadows.
All five native species of owl have been spotted around the woodland.
2. Broken Scar
This is a gorgeous six-kilometre circular walk on the outskirts of Darlington.
It is a nice gentle route that will take around an hour and a quarter to complete.
It is a very popular route in summer for good reason.
The best times to visit this trail are from May through to November.
3. Low Coniscliffe to High Coniscliffe
Another nice leisurely walk near Darlington is from Low Coniscliffe to High Coniscliffe along the bank of the River Tees.
This is a slightly longer route than the others and it is recommended to start from Baydale Beck.
It is 10.5km in total but it is convenient that there is a nearby pub for food and refreshments.
4. Hamsterley Forest
Hamsterley Forest is County Durham's largest forest and there are a wide variety of walks available in the 5,000 acres.
"These include the two and a half mile Bedburn Valley walk which goes through an ancient woodland trail and the four and a half mile walk through Spurls Valley which passes beautiful waterfalls.
"There is also a stunning walk called the Three Becks which takes you through four and a half miles of waterside beech trees."

5. Middleton-One-Row
Another stunning circular walk along the River Tees, this one is six miles in total.
You can follow the riverside path past woodland tracks, rolling fields and a golf course.
