James Arthur Middlesbrough: Parking, public transport, roads

The X Factor winner is playing his homecoming gig at the Riverside on Saturday (June 8) evening.

But, as is always the case with big gigs, getting to and from the venue could be a challenge to test some concertgoers who are being urged to plan their journeys in advance.

We’ve rounded up all of the parking restrictions, road closures and public transport you need to know about if you’re heading to the gig.

Where is the stadium?

The Riverside Stadium is located just off the A66 in Middlesbrough, so is easy to reach when connecting from other major A-roads including the A19.

Is there parking at the stadium?

There is no parking at the stadium itself on the day of the concert with road closures in place for safety reasons. The event is recommending parking at Teesside University, a 20-minute walk away and for £20. Further information is available at thebigparking.co.uk

Where is the nearest parking to the stadium?

Is there accessible parking closer to the stadium?

Middlesbrough FC has a small number of accessible parking spots available for fans just opposite the Riverside Stadium. The club’s website says these must have been booked by May 29, but it may be worth giving the club ticket office a ring in case there are any still available.

Otherwise, the nearest accessible parking is the France Street car park.

Can I get dropped off at the stadium?

A drop-off zone will be in place near Middlesbrough College as the areas around the stadium will be closed from 11am to midnight on the day of the gig.

The drop-off and pick-up zone is at Vulcan Street, TS2 1AD, and will be signposted with a one-way system in operation.

Will there be road closures in place?

A large area around the stadium will be closed to traffic, except taxis and emergency vehicles from 11am on Friday morning until midnight.

Towards the end of the concert the A66 slip roads at North Ormesby for the stadium will be closed eastbound, and traffic will not be able to turn towards the stadium from the westbound carriageway. This will be in place until about 11.30pm.

Can I get to the stadium by bus?

There is no bus service directly to the stadium, but Middlesbrough bus station is a 20-minute walk away, although there are smaller bus stops closer to the ground.

Can I get to the stadium by train?

Middlesbrough train station is about a 15-minute walk away from the stadium with only two services running after the concert, expected at 10.25pm.

The trains running on the night are:

11.19pm: Northern Rail service to Darlington (direct)
11.26pm: Northern Rail service to Darlington (stops at Thornaby, Eaglescliffe, Allens West and Dinsdale).
