Enterprising pupils at a North East primary school have been tickled pink – and lots of other colours too – by their latest fundraising venture.

With the help of their teachers, Year 2 pupils at Hurworth Primary School, near Darlington, organised a school-wide Colour Run event to raise money for their upcoming field trip to Saltholme Nature Reserve, on Teesside.

Nearly 200 children and their parents from the school and its nearby nursery, Little Acorns, took part in the fun run around the school field while teachers and volunteers threw colour powder at them.

Arabella Lowrie, aged seven, said: “It was so much fun! I want to do it every day.  Look – I'm a work of art!"

The event raised more than £400 towards the cost of the school trip, but also provided an important life lesson for the class.

Shaunagh Maguire, Year 2 teacher, said: “All of our children have loved helping put their enterprise events together and taking part in them throughout the year, and it’s been a fantastic way to introduce them to the concept of enterprise by connecting their success to their commencing school trips.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with the support from our community for the colour run and all of our enterprise events, and the children and I would like to thank everyone who helped make it happen.”
