Police have released an image of a man they want to locate in relation to an incident on a bus which involved a 13-year-old.

The incident took place on May 8 between an elderly man and the teenager between 5.30pm and 5.50pm on a bus at the Gateshead Metro Interchange.

The nature of the incident has not been revealed.

An investigation has been launched into the incident and police have released the image of a man who they believe could assist enquiries.

A full police statement reads: "Police have released an image of a man they would like to locate in connection with an incident on a bus in Gateshead.

"On Wednesday May 8, police received a report of an altercation involving an elderly man and a 13-year-old, which occurred between 5.30pm and 5.50pm.

"It was reported the incident took place while the bus was located at Gateshead Metro Interchange.

"Officers immediately launched an investigation and have today (Tuesday), shared an image of man who they believe could assist in their enquiries. It is thought he was in the area at the time of the incident.

"The man, or anyone who recognises him, is asked to contact police via the 'Report' page on the Northumbria Police website or by calling 101, quoting the crime number 053235U/24."
