A County Durham leisure centre has confirmed that they have closed due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Consett Leisure Centre confirmed the news earlier this evening (June 3) on social media, apologising for any inconvenience caused.

Initially, it was understood the centre was to remain closed until 5pm but this was later extended to be fully closed overnight and tomorrow.

The centre wrote: "The leisure centre will remain closed tonight, this includes ALL activities.

"The centre will remain closed tomorrow for ALL activities. We will update you in due course as to when the centre will reopen.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

No specific details of why the centre has been closed have been released at this time.
