Footy fans are in for a treat as a popular Darlington bar announces it is set to re-open - just in time for the Euros.

Avalon has confirmed it is returning to the town so punters can embrace football fever for the highly-anticipated tournament, set to fixate the nation from June 14.

The news comes just months after the Blackwellgate venue, a staple for partygoers in Darlington, confirmed its closure. Bosses at the time cited the cost of living and rising prices as the reason behind the blow to the town’s nightlife scene.

But now pints are set to be flowing at the nightspot once again - with a spokesperson revealing that it could reopen as early as this weekend.

Avalon’s resurgence was first teased in a Facebook post last week when the venue said: “Should we get Avalon back open for the Euros?”

Fans responded saying they “miss hearing [Avalon] pumping out on a weekend” and that it would “be rude not to” re-open the bar for the Euros.

While details regarding the re-opening remain under wraps, bosses say that once it is back up and running the doors will be open “for the foreseeable future.” They added that the reason behind Avalon’s return was simple: “It’s what the people want.”

As previously reported in The Northern Echo, Avalon hosted two special leaving parties on Saturday, February 24 and Saturday, March 2, after announcing the closure.

A previous statement said: “After months of trying to tackle rising costs of utilities, rent increases, staff cost, alcohol tax increases, business rates, taxes and a whole load more we’ve come to a very difficult decision to step away from Avalon and close the doors.

"We want to thank all our loyal customers and staff who have been supporting us since we took over in 2020. We will be having two huge closing parties starting this Saturday with the resident leaving party.”
