One person has been taken to hospital with ‘serious injuries’ following a crash on a County Durham road earlier today.

North East Ambulance Service have confirmed they received a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and car on Shincliffe Lane in Durham at 12;28pm today (June 2).

They confirmed they deployed a paramedic ambulance and doctor to the scene.

They added one person was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 12.28h today (2 JUNE) to attend a road traffic collision on Shincliffe Lane involving a motorcycle and a car.

“We dispatched a paramedic ambulance and doctor who took one patient, with serious injuries, to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and a clinical team leader, who took a second patient to University Hospital of North Durham."

A Durham Police spokesperson confirmed police were attending a ‘serious’ crash and the road has been closed.

They said: "Officers are currently on scene at a serious RTC on Shincliffe Lane near Shincliffe Garden Centre on the B1198.

"The road is closed to traffic and pedestrians at Shincliffe Traffic lights and the junction to Sherburn House near A181.

"It is anticipated the road will be closed for several hours. Please find an alternative route."
