A Darlington cocktail bar taking over the former Hoskins bar in the town centre is undergoing a refurbishment ahead of its opening.

The Hummingbird announced it will be taking over the site on Blackwellgate on May 20.

The new venue said it will be “opening soon” and has released images showing the progress of its refurbishment.

Company Phase One are working on the new venue to install sound and lighting equipment

A spokesperson for The Hummingbird said: “The Hummingbird will be opening soon and we are so excited for you to see what we have done! But we want to hear from you.

“What music is missing from Darlington and what do you want to be dancing the night away too?

Posters on the former Hoskins bar were put up last month showing the new business would be coming soon.

As part of the refurbishment work, a new stage has been fitted and a carpet has been laid inside the venue.

This comes after The Hoskins announced its closure on social media on May 6.

They said: “That’s all Folks!

“We would like to thank all who have visited us over the years. The reality has hit and it’s time to call it a day.

“The Hoskins is no more.

“We wish the new owners of the building the best of luck.  The builders have moved in.
