A 'train fault' near Darlington is set to cause several hours of rail disruption in the area after other trains are unable to get through.
Rail companies have said that a fault with a train at East Cowton, between Darlington and Northallerton, is responsible for the delays, which could impact train travel this afternoon (June 1).
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: "Due to a fault on a train in front of this one between Darlington and Northallerton some lines are blocked.
"Train services running through these stations may be delayed. Disruption is expected until 16:30 01/06.
"Due to a fault on a train in the East Cowton area between Darlington and Northallerton, TransPennine Express services will be delayed in this area Engineers are on site trying to rectify the fault on the culprit train. 13:43 Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street is being held at Darlington 14:43 Newcastle to Liverpool Lime Street will be held at Newcastle."
