Residents gathered in Darlington town centre today (June 1) to take part in activities alongside the North East's emergency services.

Emergency services such as Durham Police, North East Ambulance Service, Teesdale Mountain Rescue, and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service had stalls at the event.

The stalls saw the services provide information to families who flocked to the Market Square.

Free face painting and play toys were all available at the event.

The event was sponsored by Freeman Johnson Solicitors.

Roy Marks, chair of Darlington and Durham Neighbourhood Watch, said they had seen a good response to the event.

He said: "It's been a good day, the weather's been good. We've had quite a few people round.

"The main thing is to spread the word, what we do, and how we are going to try to keep Darlington safe.

Liz, who works for Darlington PCC, said: "I think it's a great event for young and old people, just to get information out.

"It's good to everybody coming down and enjoying the weather.

"It's been great to see the children, and give out information and freebies.

"I think we need a lot more events for the children, to bring communities together."
