A man has been arrested in Stockton town centre in possession of crack cocaine after multiple shoplifting offences.

The 28-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested by officers on a routine patrol in the town centre on May 29.

After an interview, he was charged with seven thefts from a shop and being in possession of crack cocaine.

He is due to appear in Teesside Magistrates Court today, May 30.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "The 28-year-old, of no fixed address, was arrested by two police officers following routine patrols in the town centre on Wednesday 29 May.

"After being questioned in his interview, he was subsequently charged with seven thefts from a shop and possession of crack cocaine.

"He is due to appear at Teesside Magistrates Court on Thursday 30 May.

"The charges relate to shoplifting offences that occurred in Billingham and Stockton between Saturday 27 April and Monday 13 May and a stop search on Wednesday 29 May."
