Two men have been arrested after a 22-year-old was hospitalised with "serious injuries".

The incident happened on The Greenway in Middlesbrough shortly after 3pm yesterday (May 29).

The police received reports of men with weapons in the area.

The 22-year-old man's injuries are serious but not believed to be life threatening.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Officers have been dealing with an incident in Middlesbrough which saw a 22-year-old man sustain injuries and taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

"Cleveland Police was called to an incident in The Greenway shortly after 3pm today (May 29) after reports of men with weapons in the area.

"Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident. Both men are in police custody.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who was in the area at the time is asked to contact Cleveland Police.  Dial 101, press 1 and pass information to the Control Room, quoting reference number SE24100259."
