Evolution Fitness Houghton up for British Fitness Award

Micky Donkin, 38, has operated Evolution Fitness in Houghton le Spring for the last six years - becoming a well known 24 hour feature of the high street.

Relocating to Empire House on Newbottle Street last July, the gym has grown from strength to strength and is now up for the Independent Gym award in the tenth annual British Fitness Awards.

The ceremony recognises a multitude of people in the fitness industry from personal trainers to coaches, nutritionists and influencers - and the public has the chance to vote for the shortlist.

Should Evolution Fitness make it through to the last round on June 7, they will join fellow gym pioneers and fitness experts at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool on September 14 for the awards ceremony.

Micky said: "We have a really prominent position in Houghton le Spring and because we are 24 hours we are quite successful in the area.

"We are hoping to go from here to the shortlist, which would be around 5 gyms."

Micky has, since he found out, been sharing the voting link on social media with hopes that the gym can bring back the crown for the North East.

"It is really nice to get some recognition for what we do. Yes, it's a business, but we are extremely community focused.
