Two pensioners have been found dead at a property in Darlington, police have confirmed.
The bodies of an 86-year-old man and 84-year-old woman, understood to be a couple, were found at the home on Park Crescent on Friday (May 17) evening.
Police and CSI teams remained at the scene over the weekend and into Monday.
Detectives have said their deaths are “unexpected”, but do not believe any third-party was involved and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the discovery.
An investigation is now underway with police expected to remain at the scene later into the week.
Pictures taken on Monday (May 20) show crime scene investigators in white suits going in and out of one property and photographing inside the house.
Residents earlier spoke of their shock and confusion at the large police presence on their street, with one saying they weren’t letting their children outside.
One said they saw two body bags being taken out of the property over the weekend.
Detective Superintendent Andy Reynolds, of Durham Constabulary, said: “The family have been informed and are being supported by officers. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
“I would also like to reassure the community that, although our enquiries continue to determine the circumstances leading to the deaths, we believe this is an isolated incident and there is no third-party involvement.
“We are trying to piece together their movements in recent days.
“We are appealing to anyone who has not already come forward who may have seen them between Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 17 to get in touch with us.”
One resident, who did not wish to be named, told The Northern Echo: "The police have been hanging around for three days now - there has always been someone there since Saturday.
"You could see them walking around inside the house in white suits with flashlights at night.
