Eighteen people have been fined in court for fare dodging on trains in the North East.
The passengers, from County Durham, Teesside, Tyne and Wear, and Northumberland, appeared in Teesside Magistrates' Court last week.

Faran Ahmad, 21, of Portman Street in Middlesbrough, was found guilty in absence for travelling on a railway without having previously paid the fare from Middlesbrough to Redcar Central station on Wednesday, 16 August 2023, contrary to section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £4.9, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.
The total balance is £462.90, to be paid by 14/06/2024.
Peter Davies, 37, of Derwent Street in Hartlepool, was found guilty in absence for travelling on a railway without having previously paid the fare from Seaton Carew to Billingham station on Monday, 18 September 2023, contrary to section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £3.6, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.
The total balance is £461.60, to be paid by 14/06/2024.
Stangaciu Dumitru-Dragos, 32, of Acton Street in Middlesbrough, was found guilty in absence for travelling on a railway without having previously paid the fare from Middlesbrough to Newcastle on Wednesday, 13 September 2023, contrary to section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £14.1, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.
The total balance is £472.10, to be paid by 14/06/2024.
David E Forbes, 67, of The Old Market in Yarm, pleaded guilty to travelling on a railway without having previously paid the fare from Middlesbrough to Hartlepool on Tuesday, 5 September 2023, contrary to section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
He was fined £60, ordered to pay compensation of £5.6, a surcharge to fund victim services of £24 and costs of £150.
The total balance is £239.60, to be paid by £20.00 per month commencing 14/06/2024.
Daniel Wayne Gent, 33, of Beaver Court in Middlesbrough, was found guilty in the absence of travelling on a railway without having previously paid the fare from South Bank to Thornaby station on Wednesday, 30 August 2023, contrary to section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £4.2, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.
The total balance is £462.20, to be paid by 14/06/2024.
Tammy Harrison, 33, of Ropery Walk in Seaham, was found guilty in absence of travelling on a railway without having previously paid the fare from Hartlepool to Horden station on Saturday, 09 September 2023, contrary to section 5(3)(a) of the Regulation of Railways Act 1889.
She was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £4.6, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.
The total balance is £462.60, to be paid by 14/06/2024.
Sebesi Ionel-Alin, 35, of Acton Street in Middlesbrough, was found guilty in absence on May 17 for travelling without paying the fare of £14.10 from Newcastle to Middlesbrough, and with intent to avoid payment thereof, on 13 September 2023.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £14.1, ordered to pay surcharge of £88 to fund victim services and ordered to pay costs of £150.
The amount to be paid by 14/06/2024 is £472.10.
Callum Joyce, 20, of Heathfield Crescent in Newcastle, was found guilty in absence on May 17 for travelling without paying the fare of £4.90 from Redcar to Middlesbrough on September 6, 2023.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £4.9, ordered to pay surcharge of £88 to fund victim services and ordered to pay costs of £150.
The amount to be paid by 14/06/2024 is £462.90.
Dean Kent, 36, of Baden Street in Hartlepool was found guilty in absence on May 17 for travelling without paying the fare of £10.00 from Seaton Carew to Thornaby on September 22, 2023.
He was fined £440, ordered to pay compensation of £10, ordered to pay surcharge of £264 to fund victim services and ordered to pay costs of £150.
The amount to be paid by 14/06/2024 is £864.00.
Jessica Onyegbosi, 40, of John Street in Houghton le Spring, was found guilty in absence on May 17, for travelling without paying the full fare of £12.8 from Sunderland to Middlesbrough on 28 September 2023.
She was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £12.8, ordered to pay surcharge of £88 to fund victim services and ordered to pay costs of £150.
The amount to be paid by 14/06/2024 is £470.80.
Oliver Overton, 23, of Henry Street in Seaham was found guilty in absence on May 17 for travelling without paying the fare of £11.60 from THORNABY to SUNDERLAND on 18 September 2023.
He was fined £220, ordered to pay compensation of £11.6, ordered to pay surcharge of £88 to fund victim services and ordered to pay costs of £150.
The amount to be paid by 14/06/2024 is £469.60.
Nathan Plews, 23, of Creekwood, Middlesbrough, travelled on a railway between James Cook and Middlesbrough station without having previously paid the fare of £3.10 and with the intent to avoid payment on Thursday, September 7, 2023.
Plews failed to communicate or acknowledge payment requests, as a result of which the fare remains unpaid.

Will Robinson, 25, of Cotsford Lane, Peterlee, SR8 4JJ, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £4.60 and with the intent to avoid payment.

Gemma Rutherford, 39, of West Court, Blyth, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £9.30 and with intent to avoid payment.

Mohamed Safdi, 19, of Henry Street, Middlesbrough, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £14.10 and with intent to avoid payment.
The total balance owed is £472.10 to be paid by 14/06/2024.
Robert John Stevenson, 52, of Fenhall Green, Newton Aycliffe, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £4.50 and with intent to avoid payment.
The total balance owed is £462.50 to be paid by 14/06/2024.
Tracy Watt, 51, of The Gardens, Whitehaven, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £29.70 and with intent to avoid payment.
The total balance owed is £487.70 to be paid by 14/06/2024.
Stuart Wilde, 41, of Hudson Avenue, Peterlee, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £4.00 and with the intent to avoid payment.
