Residents were left shocked after a rat ‘the size of a cat’ was spotted on a North East street.
Thornaby residents were gobsmacked after images of a large rat on Westbury Street were circulated online on May 11.
The resident who snapped the picture warned those on the street to watch out for the rodent – and pointed out the breezeblock below the critter measured in at 9 inches.
Stockton Borough Council have confirmed they have been made aware of reports of rats in the area.
They added their environmental health team is taking appropriate action to tackle the issue.
A spokesperson for Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council said: “We have been made aware of reports of rats in this area and our Environmental Health team is taking the appropriate action.
“Residents can request a free pest control treatment if required by visiting here.”
Some residents reacted to the images online with disgust, while others saw the humorous side of the situation.
