Two police officers are accused of lying about the whereabouts of drugs seized during an arrest.

The pair, PC 3329 Lewis Mahon and Special Constable 5479 Kieran Parkin-Ormston, both officers with Northumbria Police, will face a misconduct hearing next week.

It is alleged they “did not give a truthful explanation at first” when asked about the whereabouts of drugs seized during an arrest.

It is also alleged the duo failed to record the seizure of the drugs or hand over the package and that their actions, if proven, would amount to gross misconduct.

The hearing is expected to last four days and will take place at Houghton-le-Spring police station.

A notice of the hearing outlines the allegations as: “1. That the officers, whilst on duty and after responding to a concern for safety of a male, were asked by supervision to account for the whereabouts of the drugs seized during an arrest and did not give a truthful explanation at first as to where the drugs were.

“2. That the officers failed to record the seizure of drugs on the arrest/handover package.

“It is alleged that the officers’ conduct summarised above breaches the Standards of Professional Behaviour contained in Schedule 2 of Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020, in particular honesty and integrity, and duties and responsibilities, and amounts to gross misconduct.”
