A North East pub was shocked to find a former footballer among its customers after an ex-Newcastle United player popped into the venue to enjoy a game of bingo.
It might have been a normal day for those working and visiting the Butchers Arms in Byker, Newcastle, on Friday (May 10) - but all of that changed when former footballer Jonas Guiterrez came in to visit the pub.
Enjoying a game of bingo at the venue, the Butchers Arms posted about the encounter on its social media page - describing the Argentine as a 'lovely gent'.
It may seem like a strange former footballer story - but the pub admitted on social media that Guiterrez had come in to play a game of bingo.
A post from the pub read: "When Jonas Gutierrez randomly pops in the Butchers for a game of bingo. What a lovely gent."
Dressed in a tracksuit and trainers, the former Newcastle man was all smiles, as he was pictured by the pub marking off his bingo card.
The ex-Magpies ace called time on his footballing career back in 2021 - retiring from his club at the time, Club Almagro, after over 15 years in the game.
Gutierrez spent seven seasons on Tyneside after signing from Mallorca in 2008 and went on to make 205 appearances and score 12 goals in all competitions.

He was a fan favourite in the North-East for his work ethic and emotional attachment to the fans while his popularity grew in his goal celebrations, where he would sport the Spider-Man mask.
In September 2014, Gutierrez revealed his diagnosis for testicular cancer and took a spell out of the game to undergo treatment.
He returned to the first-team the following year and made his biggest impact in a Newcastle shirt scoring a goal against West Ham in a 2-0 win at St James’ Park to keep them in the Premier League on the final day of the season in 2015.
