An investigation has been launched after several Go North East vehicles were allegedly involved in a 'drag race' at a North East shopping centre car park.

Go North East has confirmed that it is undertaking an internal investigation following the alleged incident - which is said to have happened at the Metrocentre car park on Sunday, May 5.

The incident was captured on video and shared to social media site TikTok - which shows several Go North East buses revving their engines before setting off in a 'race', while members of the public watch on.

The video, which has since been deleted but viewed by The Northern Echo, is believed to have happened at the coach park at the Metrocentre - but the reasons for doing this are not known at this time.

It's believed that the buses were attending the NEBPT Bus Rally at the Metrocentre - but Go North East hasn't confirmed whether this was part of the official event.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Go North East said: "We were made aware of an incident involving our vehicles on Sunday 5th May 24. This is currently under investigation in line with internal procedures"

An internal memo circulated to Go North East drivers added that requests to attend external events must be approved by a company director and a senior member of staff must be present at the event.
