A 240-property housing estate has been approved two years after it was first submitted - despite concerns over "overdevelopment" and the environment.
The houses, which will now be built on Catterick Road, Catterick Garrison, have been given the go-ahead following two years of consultation and a planning committee meeting.
On Friday (May 3), a decision notice that approved the site was made by North Yorkshire Council - handing a green light to developers Miller Homes and marking a significant milestone in the planning process.
Now that the plans have been approved, 34 two-bedroom houses, 120 three-bedroom houses, and 86 four-bedroom houses will be built; 72 of which will be affordable housing.
This application had initially been submitted in June 2021 - but experienced several stages of consultation and scrutiny, before going to a North Yorkshire Council planning meeting in June 2023, where it was recommended for approval.
Despite its approval, the application had initially garnered objections from members of the public, as well by Brough with St Giles Parish Council, who objected on the grounds that "the layout is considered to be high density and at odds with the beautiful countryside in which it lays."
Other concerns made about the plans, included an increase in traffic through Catterick, as well as ecology concerns, and a lack of open countryside.

However, Miller Homes said that environmental considerations, such as heat pumps and solar panels would be included, while also making several measures to limit the impact of added traffic from the housing estate.
This approval of the site in Catterick comes after fellow developers Avant Homes showed off the first images of its £28m Brompton Mews estate, which is on Cookson Way, and will feature 135 houses.
Located just four miles from Richmond town centre on Cookson Way, the 135 house development comprises a mix of three and four-bedroom family homes.
