Armed police have swooped on a residential street in a North East town and arrested a man following an incident today (Sunday, May 5).
Police were called to deal with incident at a property in Valley Road, Middlesbrough, shortly before noon.
Residents described how four armed response cars and other police vehicles arrived just before 12pm. The officers were seen surrounding the property for a period of time.
One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said after a while a man came out of the house and rushed towards officers.
An officer shot at him, with what is believed to have been a rubber bullet, while another officer used a taser to incapacitate the man temporarily.
One bystander photographed several armed officers as they held him to the ground before he was led away.
Officers cordoned off a section of the street between the junctions of Park Road South and Marton Grove Road.
The nature of the incident is not yet known.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Cleveland Police officers were called to an incident in Valley Road, Middlesbrough at around 11:40am this morning, Sunday 5th May, and were at the scene for around an hour.
"A 31-year-old man was arrested."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call for an incident at a private address in Grove Hill, Middlesbrough today (5 May) at 11:39am but were stood down by police."
