A well-known North East nightclub will keep its licence following a hearing and plans to announce its reopening plans soon.
The Empire in Middlesbrough will keep its licence after Middlesbrough Council’s Licensing Committee decided on Thursday (April 25).
The committee agreed to recommendations made by Cleveland Police, the council, and Public Health, and all parties agreed to a list of conditions to be adhered to.
A spokesperson for The Empire said the decision represents “a brand new era” for the venue, and added they plan to release more information about their reopening soon.
The club’s licence remains suspended until May 16.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “A hearing to determine the future of Middlesbrough nightclub The Empire, concluded yesterday afternoon (Thursday 25 April) with the Licensing Committee allowing the club to keep its licence.
“The committee, consisting of representatives from Middlesbrough Council, agreed to the recommendations made by the responsible authorities (Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Council and Public Health) and all parties agreed to a list of conditions to be adhered to.
“The committee listened to representations from both sides and all parties have agreed to these conditions.
“Middlesbrough Council will publish a full report of the outcome and the required conditions in due course.”
A spokesperson for The Empire said: “It's a brand new era for the Middlesbrough Empire as work begins behind the scenes with a new team and fresh structure as we look to the future.
