The identity of a man who died following an assault has been confirmed by police, as a suspect is due in court charged with his murder.
At about 8.40am on Wednesday (April 24), officers attended a house on Lily Street, in Millfield, Sunderland, following a report of a serious assault.
Inside they found 40-year-old Allen Adeyemi Tejan, who had suffered serious head injuries, believed to be caused by a blunt instrument.
He was taken to hospital and died in the early hours of Thursday (April 25).
An investigation was launched by Northumbria Police, with one man arrested on suspicion of murder.
The man – Adrian Wright, 53, of no fixed abode – has since been charged with Allen’s murder.
He is due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside today (Friday).
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Steel, the senior investigating officer in the case, said: “The last 48 hours have been incredibly difficult for Allen’s family and we will continue to offer them any support they need, as they attempt to come to terms with their loss.
“They have been at the forefront of our minds as we’ve looked to build a clearer picture as to the full circumstances surrounding the incident that unfolded, which resulted in Allen’s death.
“The investigative team have carried out a range of enquiries over the last two days, and I would like to thank all those officers involved, as well as the general public who’ve supported our enquiries.
