A man has appeared in court for the first time charged with several offences linked to an incident which saw him allegedly attack a woman in her own home.
A 33-year-old man of Chester-le-Street appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court on Thursday (April 25), after a woman was attacked in her home by an intruder.
The incident happened at 2.25am on Saturday, April 13, in Durham.
The victim was not physically hurt but was left distressed by the incident.
According to police, the 33-year-old man who appeared in court on Thursday was arrested a few days later and charged with attempted rape, two counts of intentional strangulation and trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence.
He did not enter a plea when he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in prison and will appear at Durham Crown Court on Friday, May 23.
