A closure on a busy North East high street road has been extended after ‘further issues’ were discovered during works.
Stockton Borough Council (SBC) have confirmed the southern end of Norton High Street will remain closed until May 13.
This is due to issues in the road being discovered during the ongoing drainage works as part of the Norton Improvement scheme.
The road will be closed between Canteen & Cocktails and the new junction.
A Stockton Borough Council spokesperson said: “As part of ongoing significant drainage works on the Norton improvement scheme, further issues have emerged that have only been discovered when the road was excavated.
“This means the existing road closure will need to remain in place until Monday 13 May.
“The closure takes place at the southern end of the High Street, between Canteen & Cocktails, to the new junction. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“The first phase of works, which includes the reopening of Holly Street and removal of the Esk Road diversion, will be completed before the end of May.”
The closure has previously been extended to April 29 due to drainage works.
The high street can still be accessed by the Norton Road roundabout and South Road.
Final surfacing works for the project will take place in the summer.

The council have said the works will see high-quality, safe and accessible public spaces added to the area.
Previously, Steven Garrigan, Divisional Director at Esh Construction, said: "We are delighted to bring our expertise to this project which will play an important role in improving Norton High Street for residents, businesses and visitors.
"Combined with the Stockton Waterfront project that we are also delivering, it is an exciting time as a North East contractor to be involved in the transformation programme underway across the borough."
