Armed police descended on a County Durham seaside town where they arrested a man believed to be in possession of a knife yesterday (Tuesday, April 23).
In a drama captured on phone camera by a bystander, officers from Durham Police are seen approaching a white car parked near the Tommy statue in Seaham.
They open the front passenger door of the car and speak to a man inside. The man is seen getting out, before being asked to turn around with his hands up, before being cuffed with his hands behind his back.
Durham Police confirmed today the man, who is from the Cleveland area, was arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Shortly before 1pm yesterday (Tuesday), police received reports of an armed man in a car parked near the Tommy statue in Seaham.
"Armed officers were deployed and, following a short police operation, a man in his 40s from the Cleveland area was safely arrested on suspicion of possessing a knife in a public place."
