Police are hunting for a driver who crashed a van into the back of a house knocking out a gaping hole in the wall before fleeing the scene.
Neighbours were shocked to hear the van crashing into house in Vulcan Way, in Thornaby, at about 5pm on Friday.
The driver ran away before police arrived at the scene.
Photographs show long tire tracks gouged out of a grassed area leading to the house, where a wooden fence was knocked down before the van hit the house.
There was no one in the house at the time.

Emergency workers installed two large beams to secure the property.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At 5pm on Friday April 19, police were called to reports of a van driving into a house on Vulcan Way in Thornaby.
"The driver got out of the vehicle and fled the scene prior to officers arriving.
"There were no occupants inside the property at the time.
"An investigation is currently ongoing to establish the circumstances and to identify the driver.
"If anyone has any information – no matter how small – or has CCTV or dash cam footage please contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting reference number 071304."
