The Northern Echo's flagship business magazine, BUSINESSiQ, has scooped a major award.
The quarterly publication, which carries in-depth interviews with major businesses and their leaders from across the North East, has been chosen as Supplement of the Year at the UK's Regional Press Awards in London.
The judges said: "The supplement has a clever commercial and editorial strategy, as well as a diversity of sources and voices. Most of all, however, they were impressed by its journalistic quality and production values, which suggest it will continue to go from strength to strength in the years ahead."
The magazine's editor, Mike Hughes, said the core reason the magazine was so successful was teamwork: "The judges seemed to agree that the editorial can stand against any of its rivals, but the crucial point for us is that Editorial and Commercial at The Northern Echo work seamlessly together to give businesses the widest possible exposure.
"It's an amazing region to work in and certainly keeps me busy - so thanks to all the businesses and bosses I've talked to over the last three years. Here's to the next award!"
Northern Echo Editor Gavin Foster added: "Huge congratulations to Mike for picking up the award for Supplement of the Year. It is a fantastic example of collaboration between our editorial and commercial colleagues and shows how the whole team here in the North East are focussed on telling the story of the region every day.
"Whether it is business, news, politics, sport or features, we are here to work with people and businesses to celebrate successes and highlight challenges."
The Northern Echo was nominated for an impressive SEVEN awards:
Gavin Havery for our Knife Crime campaign
Phoebe Abruzzese and Tom Burgess for Young Journalist of the Year
Chris Lloyd for Weekend Memories
and the Northern Echo itself for News Brand of the Year and Scoop of the Year with our 'Back from the Dead' story.
Gavin Foster added: "To be shortlisted for no less than seven awards was incredible and testament to the amazing work our journalists do."
