A man wanted in connection with shootings on Teesside has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a police manhunt.

Gun-toting cops swooped on a house on Dovedale Road in Grangetown at 6pm on Friday (April 12) and took the 21-year-old, who had evaded officers for almost a week, into custody.

He will be questioned on suspicion of attempted murder following two firearm incidents in the town last week.

The first incident happened on Richmond Court in Grangetown on Easter Monday (April 1), and the second in the early hours of Saturday, April 6 on Wilton Way.

A man was hospitalised with injuries believed to have been caused by a firearm after the Easter Monday incident at about 3.35am. His injuries were not thought to be life-threatening. Meanwhile, a 20-year-old suffered minor injuries in the second incident.

A 21-year-old woman and 61-year-old man have also been arrested, on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A boy of 17 was also arrested on suspicion of attempted murder earlier on Friday and two others, a 43-year-old woman and 53-year-old man, on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Cleveland Police thanked the public for their support locating the wanted man after re-appealing for information to find the wanted man on Friday afternoon.

A force spokesperson said: “A 21-year-old man who police wanted to trace in connection with recent firearms offences in the Grangetown area has just been arrested by Matrix Team officers and will be questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

“A 21-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man have also been arrested, on suspicion of assisting an offender, and they too will be questioned.

 “We would like to thank the public for their support in helping us locate the wanted man and we would reassure local communities that our officers will remain in the area carrying out patrols.”
