A well-known music and nightlife venue is set to re-open under new management after its former manager of 30 years announced his resignation.

The Empire in Middlesbrough has announced it will open its doors once again to clubbers and music lovers under new leadership two days after their former manager, Ashley Wem, announced his departure.

This revival also comes just weeks after the venue, which has gained notoriety in the town over 125 years was ordered to close "with immediate effect" following an alleged assault. 

Following the news on March 28, the club said they were "disappointed" and asserted their commitment to safety at the venue.

Safety and security have also been highlighted as a priority for the venue's new managers, who today (April 11) announced their plans for a new door supervision team.

A statement on social media reads: "We would like to thank our departing General Manager Ash for his 30 years of hard work, dedication and bringing world-renowned clubbing and live music to our town. All the best Ash.

"Moving forward The Empire will be led by a new management team with the support and enthusiasm of Barry Faulkner Jnr. and Barry Faulkner Snr.

"Meanwhile, security at the venue will be operated by a new, accredited, door supervision company as we make essential and necessary steps to ensure that best practices are adhered to and that Empire is a safe and fun space for everyone when we reopen.

"Rest assured that Middlesbrough Empire will continue to dedicate itself to bringing world-class entertainment to the North East, as it has done for the past 125 years."

No re-opening date has yet been confirmed.
