Emergency services attended a fire at a derelict Bishop Auckland church this evening.
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) confirmed they attended a fire at St Peter’s Church on Princes Street in Bishop Auckland on Wednesday (April 10).
They confirmed the fire is under control while two appliances remain at the scene.
Pictures from the scene showed the fire service and Durham Police attending the blaze.
CDDFRS added four appliances attended the blaze, while an aerial ladder platform and two breathing apparatus were deployed.
A spokesperson for the service said: “The fire is now under control, we’ve still got appliances on the scene, two from Bishop Auckland.

“There were four appliances in attendance and one aerial ladder platform. Two breathing apparatus were in use.
“Three-storey building, the derelict church. Not in use.”
The Northern Echo have contacted Durham Police for more information on the incident.
