Police spent hours overnight investigating a serious crash on the A66 near Darlington.
The incident took place at about 1am today (Sunday, April 7) and the road was closed throughout the night due to the nature of the incident.
The A66 was closed in both directions, between the B629 at Darlington and the A135 at Stockton-on-Tees.
National Highways put out a post stating that there had been a serious collision involving a car at the Little Burdon roundabout.

Police were confirmed to be investigating at the scene and a diversion route was put in place.
At 6.44am there was still work going on in the area to "clear up" the road.
The road was reopened at around 7.30am this morning.
