Darlington tip has been closed today due to high wind speeds.

The town is currently experiencing gusts of up to 47mph.

The council have decided that it would be best to close the tip as a safety precaution.

They hope to reopen it tomorrow morning.

A spokesperson from Darlington Borough Council said: "The tip (household waste recycling centre) has had to close due to high winds.

"We hope it will reopen in the morning (Sunday).

"Apologies for any inconvenience."
