A historic pub in County Durham is set to close for two weeks while having a big facelift.

The Bay Horse in Bishop Auckland will close its doors from Monday (April 8) until April 19 while the work takes place.

Before the 12-day closure, drinkers will be able to take advantage of a special sale on draught beverages tomorrow (Sunday, April 7).

Here is a list of the improvements that customers can expect when the pub on Fore Bondgate reopens on April 19:

  • Brand new interior decor
  • Comfier seating
  • Improved bar area
  • Enhanced entertainment options
  • Increased Product selection
  • AV system upgrade

Zara Lawlor, manager of The Bay Horse, said: "We'll be closing down on Sunday and we are planning to reopen on Friday, April 19.

"We won't be making any structural changes, they will be entirely cosmetic.

"I'm stressed out already! There are going to be people in and out for days, I'm sure I'll end up plastering too.

"I am excited but I will be anxious until it is all done.

The building of The Bay Horse dates back to the 1530s.
