Six individuals and companies in the North East have been named and shamed by HMRC for nearly £384,000 worth of unpaid tax between them.
HMRC publishes details every three months of people and businesses given financial penalties for failing to comply with tax obligations, or deliberately filing errors in tax returns.
Details are only released when a person or business has made at least one deliberate default on more than £25,000.
The latest list was released last week.
Among those named and shamed on the list Pathmanathan Kandasamythurai, a Hartlepool shopkeeper, was charged more than £95,000 on £140,000 of defaulted tax spanning a total of four years.
Guisborough takeaway Marcos 1 Limited was charged penalties of more than £68,000 for defaulted tax.
In total £383,428.25 of defaulted tax was racked up by six businesses or individuals in our region.
Here are the names of those named and shamed on the list published at the end of last month.
Pathmanathan Kandasamythurai
Kandasamythurai, of 197 Raby Road in Hartlepool, trading as ‘Raby Road Convenience Store’, defaulted on £140,147.64 worth of tax between April 2010 and April 2013, and again between September 2014 and November 2015.
He was charged penalties of £95,213.69.
Ferhat Erdogan
Ferhat Erdogan, trading as takeaway Fabio’s Pizza and Grill, formerly of 10 Havelock Street in Blyth racked up a total of £81,029.77 of defaulted tax.
He defaulted during a four-year period between March 2018 and April 2022, and was charged penalties of £47,388.25.
Marcos 1 Limitied
Marcos 1 Limited, a takeaway formerly of 1 Howlbeck Road in Guidborough failed to pay £68,213.96 of tax from April 2020, shortly after the start of the Covid lockdown, and April 2022.
The company was charged penalties of the full amount.
Thomas Trewhitt
Thomas Trewhitt defaulted on a £35,745.28 of tax/duties on his income from 2013 to 2018.
The formerly South Shield-based man, who job is not disclosed, was charged penalties of £19,108.01.

Steven Dennis Wynn
Subconstractor Steven Wynn, formerly three addresses in Sunderland, racked up defaulted tax totalling £31,905.60 between April 2019 and the same month in 2021.
He was charged penalties of £21,217.22.
Brian Hough
Electrical security engineer Brian Hough defaulted on £26,386 of tax for six years between April 2016 and the same month of 2022.
Hough, formerly of Hylton Terrace and St Pauls Terrace, both in the SR2 area of Sunderland, was charged penalties of £18,140.36.
