A man from Darlington has died during an industrial accident at a car garage that saw the ambulance, air ambulance and police all attend the scene.

Emergency services were called to Macadams car recovery garage on Boroughbridge Road in Ripon on Friday (March 29, 2024) at about 8am, following reports of an incident at the site.

Ambulance, air ambulance, fire and police teams were in attendance - with police confirming that the man, from Darlington and who is in his 30s, died at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police have issued a statement saying that the Health and Safety Executive will now be leading the investigation on the case. 

A spokesperson for the police force said: "We responded to a fatal industrial accident at a vehicle recovery garage on Boroughbridge Road in Ripon on Friday (29 March 2024).

"It happened at around 8am and resulted in the death of a man aged in his 30s from the Darlington area.

"He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and are being supported by the police. 

"Ambulance, air ambulance, fire and police teams were in attendance.

"We are assisting the accident investigation lead by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)."
