Trains have been delayed and National Rail have warned there may be cancellations due to a safety inspection between Newcastle and Durham.
National Rail have announced that some lines have been blocked due to a safety inspection of the track between Newcastle and Durham.
This has meant trains running between Durham and Newcastle stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

National Rail has said that the disruption is expected until 2pm.
The Route’s affected are:
- CrossCountry between Edinburgh and Birmingham New Street / Bristol Temple Meads / Penzance, and also between Newcastle and Reading
- LNER between Inverness / Aberdeen and London Kings Cross
- Lumo between Edinburgh and London Kings Cross
- TransPennine Express between Newcastle and Liverpool Lime Street
A spokesperson from National Rail has said: “A safety inspection of the track between Newcastle and Durham means some lines are blocked. As a result, trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or revised.”
National Rail has also confirmed that engineers are investigating the issue and advised passengers to check their journeys using the National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner.
Advising those travelling by train today, TransPennine Express customer advice has said that rail replacement transport has been requested to operate between Newcastle and Durham.

For those travelling from Durham train station, TransPennine Express customer advice has confirmed that rail replacement transport is in operation from Chester-le-Street.
They have also said that customers can use their tickets on LNER services between York and Newcastle, as well as on CrossCountry services between Leeds and York, at no extra cost.
