A man, 24, has been arrested following a stand-off with police last night at a garage in Newton Aycliffe.
The incident began shortly before 5pm last night at the Esso garage on St Cuthbert's Way.
Nobody was hurt in the incident and negotiators were stood down just before midnight.
The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, assault on an emergency worker and malicious communication.
He is still in custody.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "A man has been arrested following an incident in Newton Aycliffe last night.
"Officers were called to the Esso garage on St Cuthbert’s Way, shortly before 5pm yesterday (March 20) following reports of a man suffering a mental health episode.

"Thankfully nobody was injured in the incident and negotiators stood down shortly before midnight.
"The 24-year-old was arrested on suspicion of affray, criminal damage, assault on an emergency worker and malicious communication. He remains in custody.
