A recycling centre based at Tesco has been forced to close after a fire 'incident' hit the site on Friday (March 15).

Ingleby Recycling Centre, which is run by Stockton on Tees Borough Council, has been closed by officials, due to the residue of ash and burnt materials.

Due to the fire issue, the council has now issued a warning to people who use the site and those who may have been responsible for the incident.

As a result, the local authority has said it won't be replacing the bins that were destroyed and is looking at other options.

Alongside sharing an image of the fire damage, a spokesperson for the council said: "Here’s the community recycling site at Tesco, Ingleby Barwick after it was destroyed by fire on Friday evening.
