A man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs after crashing into the Darlington Hippodrome yesterday.
Police closed off Parkgate outside the theatre shortly after 3.35pm on Thursday (March 7) afternoon.
A car had crashed into the building and the driver, a man in his 40s, had to be taken to hospital.
He has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
The Echo understands no substantial damage was caused to the theatre. The Hippodrome has been contacted for a comment.
An investigation is underway.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly after 3.35pm yesterday (March 7) to reports that a car had collided with Darlington Hippodrome on Parkgate.

“The driver of the vehicle – a man in his forties - and sole occupant of the car was injured during the collision and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“He has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
