A new Greggs bakery is set to replace a Starbucks which just days ago announced its closure at one County Durham retail park.
Dalton Park's Starbucks is soon set to be transformed into a Greggs bakery after it closes its doors for the final time this weekend (March 10) according to planning applications.
The coffee giant, which has over 1,000 stores nationwide including a few in the North East, confirmed the news earlier this week.
A spokesperson said: "We regularly review our portfolio to ensure our stores are in places that are relevant for our customers while also maintaining healthy business growth.
"We can confirm that our store in Dalton Park, County Durham will close on 10th March, however, we have plans to open a drive-thru in the area soon.
"We would like to thank our customers for their loyalty over the years and let them know can find their nearest store on Starbucks Store Locator."
Now, after some speculation about what the unit would be converted into after its closure, it's been noticed that applications for the unit from North East bakery Greggs have been submitted to Durham County Council.
The application, which is still under review, requests permission for new signage, shopfront and air conditioning condenser units amongst other things.
Sketches submitted to the council show the Greggs logo affixed to the current Starbucks unit as well as details of the floorplan mapping out what customers can expect to see at the new store.
A Greggs spokesperson previously confirmed a new store will open in County Durham but did not specify the location.
They said: "Greggs is due to open a new shop in County Durham within the next couple of months. We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening."
