BBC Call the Midwife viewers are set for a big shock in the final episode of series 13 as one main character will be leaving Poplar.

Fan favourite and one of the original members of the cast, Trixie, played by Helen George, is expected to swap London for America.

Although, while Trixie is set to jet off to New York to fix her marriage to businessman Sir Matthew Aylward, actress George is not leaving the BBC drama just yet.

The series 13 final will leave fans of Call the Midwife on a dramatic cliffhanger, as fears that Trixie has shared her final goodbye to Nonnatus House, according to The Mirror.

However, some insiders to the BBC show have suggested that George will be back on set for series 14 this spring.

Call the Midwife character Trixie set for dramatic exit

Although Trixie could return to Poplar, her husband Matthew, played by Olly Rix is not expected to appear in Call the Midwife again.

The seventh episode of the drama saw Matthew head to New York in hopes of finding a solution to their money situation after he was advised by his friend Chester to buy two warehouses in New York as the property market in the American city seemed to be on the rise.

However, the decision came at a cost, forcing Matthew with no choice but to move to the Big Apple straight away, taking his son Jonty with him.

But, Rix has hinted that the "door has been left open" for the character and that he could one day return to the streets of Poplar.

As one show insider told The Mirror: "This series ends with the firm impression that Trixie is off to America to start a new life with her husband and young step-son. But the good news is her trip will be fleeting, and Helen will be back to carry on next year.”

The final of series 13 of Call the Midwife is expected to end with a dramatic phone call between Trixie and Matthew.
