Three people have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm after a man was allegedly knocked over by a car. 

The pedestrian, who is in his 50s, suffered serious injuries in the incident near North Tyneside Council's depot in Killingworth, Newcastle, last month.

Police say the driver of the car did not stop at the scene. The pedestrian has was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 3.50pm on Wednesday, January 31, we received a report of a collision involving a car and a male pedestrian on Harvey Combe in Killingworth.

"Officers attended where the driver of the car had already left the scene and not left any details.

"The man, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries and has since been discharged.

“Officers have arrested three men – aged 30, 28 and 26 – on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

“All three men have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police using the 'Report' tool on our website, or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20240131-0703."
