A problem property plaguing neighbours in Teesside has been forced to close.

The flat at Helmsley House in Guisborough was ordered to close by magistrates last week after neighbours reported being tormented by anti-social behaviour.

It means the tenant cannot legally enter the property and it will be inaccessible for three months.

Officers closed the house after the order was imposed on Thursday (February 22).

Neighbourhood policing inspector Neil Deluce said: “Actions speak louder than words and that is why my officers and I are out in Guisborough every day working with key partners to close problem properties.

“I’d like to thank Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Beyond Housing for their assistance in this closure order. We will continue to work together to improve the lives of residents across the borough.

“Please keep the reports coming into us as it builds up a bigger picture for action to be taken. You can contact us on 101 with any issues or concerns you have.”

Councillor Ursula Earl, Cabinet Member for Health, Welfare and Housing said: “I’d like to thank the police, our own anti-social behaviour team and, especially, all the decent residents and neighbours of the area who have worked with the authorities to help secure this closure order.

“Everyone deserves peace and quiet – and, especially, not to live in any fear – when they go home and we will continue to work with police and all other parties to protect people.”
