A woman has been taken to hospital after crashing during a medical episode while at the wheel on the A1.
The incident took place at 5.30am (February 26) on the A1 northbound, close to junction 69.
Police were told that a driver had suffered a medical episode while driving on the road.
She was then taken to hospital and her condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
The slip road onto the A184 is currently closed and one lane of the A1 is also closed.
The police are advising drivers to find alternative routes.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 5.30am today (Monday), we received a report of a one-vehicle collision on the A1 northbound, close to junction 69.
"It was reported that a motorist had experienced a medical episode while driving on the road.
"Emergency services attended and the motorist was taken to hospital.

"Her condition is not believed to be life-threatening.
"The northbound slip road to the A184 is currently closed while one lane of the A1 is also closed.
"Motorists are advised to use alternative routes if possible."
