A new pizzeria and street food shop launched today and reporter Michael Robinson went down to try out what’s on offer.
Crust, located on Ridley Mews in Norton, opened on Saturday (February 25) as part of a non-profit event to support the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).
The family-run restaurant is headed by James Durham, 37, who also runs the Flaming Dough pizza trailer – which was situated outside the new store serving freshly-made woodfired pizzas to the public.
As I approached the eatery, I was greeted with an intoxicating aroma of baked dough and melted cheese.
After turning the corner onto Ridley Mews, I came into contact with Mr Durham’s trailer as he prepared more pizzas to an audience tucking into a selection of different types of pizza.
As part of the experience, I got to enjoy a mouth-watering slice of margherita which tasted as delicious as it smelled.
Following this, I made my way inside the newly opened store, which was serving up free food in support of GNAAS, and was given a selection of street food such as pulled pork, coleslaw and in-house made pizza to try.
After taking home some of the new venue’s selection, I tucked into what was a very satisfying lunch that I would recommend to any in the area.
Speaking to the Echo earlier this month, Mr Durham spoke of how his loyal clientele return to his Flaming Dough business week in, week out.
After trying some of the food on offer at Crust today, I would wager the delicious and fresh pizza might be a key factor.

Mr Durham said the venue will offer a range of pizzas including Neapolitan, Detroit and New York styles.
He also said it would serve focaccia, other forms of street food, pies, sandwiches, soup, freshly prepared salad boxes, brownies and coffee cake.
He added the business is a family-run venture consisting of him, his wife, daughter, sister, and niece.
