A total of 15 drivers have been caught during a police operation that saw cars seized, drug drivers arrested and a handful of fixed penalty fines handed out. 

Officers from Cleveland Police were out on the roads of Teesside on Thursday (February 22) to try and crack down on people on their phones while driving, drink and drug drivers, alongside those that were driving dangerously. 

During the day of action, the road policing team caught six uninsured motorists, six people not wearing seatbelts and three suspected drug drivers. 

The uninsured drivers had their vehicles seized, while the drug drivers were arrested and those not wearing seatbelts were issued with fines.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Yesterday’s proactive activity saw The Matrix Team seize six uninsured vehicles in the Redcar and Cleveland and Middlesbrough areas.

"Six fixed penalties were issued to drivers for not wearing seatbelts and three arrests were made for drug driving, during road patrols to tackle illegal and unsafe drivers on Thursday, February."

Among those who had their car seized was a Porsche driver, which police pulled over. 

After checking the driver's details, Cleveland Police shared on their social media page an image of the Porsche at the side of the road with the caption: "Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Officers seized a vehicle without insurance in Middlesbrough yesterday afternoon (Thursday 23 February), after the registration was picked up by an ANPR camera in the area."
