A Met Office spokesperson said: "A band of rain, locally heavy and squally, will gradually clear eastwards during the morning.

"Becoming drier and brighter, with some sunny spells developing in the afternoon, with a few well-scattered showers. Temperatures near normal. Winds easing.

"Further scattered showers overnight, locally heavy, and turning wintry on hills. Some drier and clearer interludes in between showers. Breezy, with frost restricted to higher ground or sheltered rural spots."
