The heartbroken family of a woman who died after she was struck by a Land Rover have paid tribute to their ‘amazing mam, nana and great nana’.

Janet Johnson has been named as the 74-year-old who died after she was hit by a black Land Rover in Middlesbrough on Friday (February 16) afternoon.

It happened shortly before 1.30pm when Janet was walking on Ormesby Road.

Janet, from Priestfields in Middlesbrough, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she died a short time later.

Her family have today released a picture of their ‘wonderful’ mum.

In a statement they said: “We are absolutely devastated to have lost our wonderful Janet. She was a lovely wife and an amazing mam, nana and great nana.

“Janet had so much to look forward to in life and we can’t put into words how much we will miss her.”

A police investigation is currently underway.

The driver of the Land Rover, a 39-year-old man, was arrested in connection with the incident and was released on police bail.

Detectives previously said they were looking to speak to any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage or who saw the vehicle around the time of the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “Anyone who has any information, CCTV or dash cam footage relating to the collision is asked to call Cleveland Police on 101 quoting 028472.”
